Lapstone and Hammer X JSP Collaboration Preview
Posted by Jimmy Gorecki onLapstone & Hammer x JSP is the long-awaited collaboration between two Philadelphia icons that have built upon their shared influences and mutual love of fashion, skateboarding and the City of Brotherly Love. After years of trying to find the right project to work on together, Lapstone founder Brain Nadav and JSP founder, Jimmy Gorecki finally hit upon the idea of applying L&H’s signature hand-dying technique to a range of JSP apparel made in Los Angeles by Standard Issue Tees. Perfectly slotting into the transition from summer to fall, the collection mixes French terry hoodies and shorts with cotton poplin slacker pants and jersey tees that are all covered in a vibrant melange of color that channels the diversity and creativity that is at the heart of Philadelphia.
The colorway we created for this project is our take on a kind of evolved version of JSP’s OG tie-dye sweatsuit that he has been running since 2013. It features the core tones of jade, indigo and red along with orange and purple notes that explode into vibrant organic patterns through our unique style of dying that leaves each garment with a unique one-of-a-kind finish. All of the pieces contain a special co-branded logo print in white that symbolizes the union of L&H and JSP not only in design but most importantly in heart and mind.
The Lapstone & Hammer x JSP collection features:
100% Cotton Jersey Tee: $60
French Terry Short: $120
French Terry Hoodie: $160
Cotton Poplin Slacker Pant: $140
Lapstone & Hammer x JSP is not just another project for Jimmy Gorecki. It’s something much deeper and more personal than that, as he explains in his own words:
"I am a product of Philadelphia. I grew up in Norristown, PA, but the cultural diversities that are the DNA of the city of Philadelphia are what molded me as a youth. That DNA spews creativity in several different facets: art, fashion, skateboarding, etc. Those different disciplines also shaped the retail landscape in the city, which I was able to study, work, and grow. That pedigree is 100% the foundation of JSP.
After I moved away I met a gentleman by the name of Brian Nadav, who was raised on a lot of these same influences, and who created a new shopping experience that educates both the customer and community on this shared set of ideals. From the beginning of our friendship, there was an obvious connection and support. That to me is the beauty of this collaborative partnership. We at JSP saw someone in Philadelphia doing tie dyes that were light years better than anything we created, and up until that point I thought ours was the best. Brian, seeing garments that Jarod Lee, myself and people at Standard Issue and JSP were making in our facility thought they provided the best canvas for the L&H dye process. That mutual respect and admiration is crystal clear in these garments.
As for the visuals, this is where it really makes me tear up. We're prideful of our Philly fresh. When Love Park was popping, you couldn't tell me there wasn't a better-dressed group of skateboarders in the industry - from the pros to the homies that were low key and part of the scene. When we left Love for a house party, club, or concert, we upped the ante, skating fresh to wherever we were headed. That’s the feeling I wanted the photos to evoke. As or the people in them, my career is completely 150% thanks to Kevin Taylor. He is an East Coast and overall skateboard legend. Kris Brown represents the new generation of hungry rippers that have that love and drive we all had on those same blocks for so many years.
All in all, this is just something that means the world to me to do. This city has built and given me everything I know, and I’ve spent last ten years since I moved hoping to convey that love, and continue to shine light on those same people, places and things."
Lapstone x JSP will be available on Saturday, September 7th @ 9:00 am PST in our webshop.
